Life insurance in the Kansas City metro

Overview

What life insurance is really for

Most people either have no life insurance or have whatever their employer gave them, which usually disappears the day they change jobs. The right number is not a rule of thumb, it is your mortgage balance, your remaining income years, your childcare costs and your education goals, minus what you already have.

Run our needs calculator first, then let us shop it. Term life for a healthy 35-year-old is one of the few things in this business that is genuinely inexpensive.

What the policy includes

The coverages we build into every quote, plus the endorsements that matter in this metro.

How we place it

Four steps from your current policy to a better-fitting one.

  1. 1

    Run the needs calculation

Income replacement, debts, education and final expenses, minus existing coverage and savings.

  2. 2

    Choose term length

Match it to the years your family depends on your income, usually until the mortgage ends or the youngest child finishes school.

  3. 3

    Apply and underwrite

Many carriers now offer accelerated underwriting with no exam for healthy applicants under certain face amounts.

  4. 4

    Review every few years

New baby, new mortgage, new business. Coverage should move with the obligation.

Why clients choose us for this

  • A calculated number, not a guess
  • Accelerated underwriting available at several carriers, often with no medical exam
  • Independent shopping across life carriers with different health-class rules
  • Straight answers about when whole life is and is not worth it

What moves the price

Age at application
Premiums rise every year you wait. This is the one factor entirely within your control.
Health class
Blood pressure, cholesterol, build and family history determine your rate class, and carriers grade these differently.
Tobacco use
The single largest premium multiplier in life underwriting.
Face amount and term length
More coverage for longer costs more, but rarely in a straight line. Sometimes $500,000 costs barely more than $400,000.
Occupation and hobbies
Aviation, climbing and certain trades are rated by some carriers and ignored by others.

Life insurance questions

If your question is not here, call the office. You will reach a licensed agent in Kansas City, not a queue.

Our calculator adds income replacement, remaining mortgage and debts, childcare and education costs and final expenses, then subtracts existing coverage and liquid savings. It takes about two minutes and the result is yours to keep.

Usually not. Group coverage is typically one or two times salary, it ends when the job ends, and it is rarely portable at a good rate. Treat it as a supplement.

For most households with a mortgage and young children, term covers the largest need at the lowest cost. Whole life earns its place in estate planning, business succession and lifelong dependent care.

Often not. Several carriers offer accelerated underwriting up to substantial face amounts for healthy applicants, with a decision in days rather than weeks.
